Chainsaw Carving

The latest WTF I have encountered is the concept of chainsaw carving. Don’t get me wrong, the work is totally amazing and impressive, but, I just have to wonder, who woke up one day and said, “I’m gonna make an awesome wood carving and I’m gonna do it with a chainsaw!” I’m guessing this got stared over a drunken bet in a small redneck town and slowly evolved into a more sophisticated art form, but, really who knows.  However it happened, it’s pretty unique and pretty impressive as you can see from the picture. Yes, this bench was carved using a chainsaw.

How is this possible? I have absolutely no idea but, it’s pretty impressive.

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo!

Feeling lazy today. too lazy to write in full sentences or use proper grammar let alone a full blog post. But, I stumbled upon this gem today and just had to share it.

Yes, "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.", is a real grammatically correct sentence. What does it mean? I'm not entirely sure, but, something about buffalo, buffaloing, other buffalo in Buffalo?

All My Friends Are Dead!

No, not all my friends. Believe it or not it’s the title of a book. I stumbled upon this  precious WTF, while shopping downtown with one of my girl friends. We found it not in a book store, but, a shop that sold mostly clothes, jewelry and knickknacks, which, made our discovery of it all the more surprising. I’m pretty sure my mouth was still gaping open as I held it up for her to see, still trying to decide whether I should laugh or be horrified. I went with laughing, because, well, I just couldn't’ help it. It was too funny. As we flipped through the pages the laughter increased to the point where I thought we were going to get kicked out of the store, but we didn't, probably because I decided to buy the book and show it to NC.  And pretty much all of my other friends too.

This is the cover:

And a few of my favorite parts from the book . . .

The tree:

Poor guy! But, it gets even sadder. . .

The End Table:

:(

The yeti:

And my personal favorite, the baker, whose friends are all bread, and soon to all be dead! After being eaten alive of course

So heart breaking!

I think this book would be depressing, perhaps should be depressing, but, it’s just so incredibly bizarre, that I just can’t help but laugh. So what did I do with it in the end? Gave it to my sister of course! My brother dubbed her “The Queen of Weird Gifts” years ago, after receiving a chocolate brain from her for Christmas, but, I think I out did her with this one!

The Country Fair

The name sounds ordinary enough, but, the Country Fair in Eugene Oregon is quite the experience. I had so many WTF moments, it was hard to keep. At the Country Fair, nearly anything goes, and being nearly naked is perfectly acceptable, the only requirement being that the groin area be covered. Women go topless, though typically with creative body art. I saw one woman with eyes painted on over her breasts and another with hands. .  . . I ‘m not sure what message this was intended to send, but, it was certainly interesting to say the least. Aside from the nudity, there were also some incredible artwork, crafts and costumes. While I did manage to take some pictures, I decided it was best to keep them appropriate, the rest, is just better witnessed firsthand. . .
I’m not sure what exactly these two are dressed up as, but, whatever they are, they are pretty awesome.

I have absolutely know idea WTF these things are supposed to be, but, they are definitely creative. My friends and I noticed them dancing and doing handstands from afar. Unfortunately, video was not allowed at the fair, but, pictures absolutely were.

The Country fair is definitely high on the WTF lists, and I highly recommend it as a unique once in a life time experience.

Cars, Trucks and Horses Welcome!

Not much of a “WTF” moment for me, but, I think those who grew up in the city might have that reaction to this horse parked in front of the supermarket among all the trucks and cars. This not unusual in a small town like Bandon Oregon but, definitely a head turner for those unfamiliar with small town lifestyle.

I have to say, I was surprised and impressed by the fact that this horse is standing perfectly between the lines, almost as if he knows he has been “parked”.

Bandon Pirate

Its not every day you meet a pirate! This guy wanders around outside a little thrift shop,  in full pirate dress and in complete character.  When I asked if I could take his picture he said "of course, wench" and added in what sounded like a "yar". I think his goal is to get people to stop at the shop. If it is its definitely working! Meeting a pirate in the little town of Bandon Oregon was quite surprising to say the least.

Albuquerque New Mexico

WTF of the day is Albuquerque NM. No not because it has a name like Albuquerque, but because it is the strangest city I have ever been to. Maybe it’s just my luck, or maybe downtown isn’t the place to be, but this city looked like a ghost town after the apocalypse. Walking downtown I didn’t see a single person for miles, and yet there were cars driving everywhere. Were they driving themselves? Where were they going? When I did finally spot some people, they appeared all to be homeless, which, is not funny by any means but certainly strange. A few blocks later I saw several men dressed in suites. I felt as though I was in an episode from the twilight zone. But that wasn’t even the strangest part. The strangest part of downtown by far was the “art” along the street.

This pink Dinosaur, wearing a bicycle helmet is randomly placed outside of shop. . . This definitely made me say . . . wtf. . .

Even better than the pink Dino, however is this bike. Can someone please tell me when sticking a bike to the side of a building became art? Am I missing something here? It’s totally possible.

Congratulations Albuquerque! You have made the official WTF list. :)
